St. Charles has been home to The Messenger Press since 1882 when it began printing limited publications for the Precious Blood Community. It began in the basement of the main building and printed books such as The Life and Work of the Reverend Father Francis De Sales Brunner (a biography) and The Rule of the Society, both in German. A German magazine, Der Botschafter des Kostbaren Blutes and its English counterpart, Messenger of the Precious Blood, were also printed here and soon became a monumental job as subscriptions increased to 30,000 a month! As the local community learned of The Messenger Press, business increased and a new building was constructed in 1961 to better serve the surrounding area. Precious Blood priests and brothers operated the print shop until July of 1992, when it was bought by Randy Heitkamp and Allan Kremer. Heitkamp and Kremer Printing, Inc. have continued to do business as The Messenger Press, located in the same building behind St. Charles. The Messenger Press has the ability to print full color magazines, banners, books and posters thanks to improvements made in the years following the sale. A full color printing press, copier and banner printer have been added along with an electronic pre-press department, CASS certified mailing station and a complete bindery department. With these expansions a small job such as business envelopes can be printed just as easily as a 12 month calendar. Wedding invitations and programs are sold here as well aletterhead, flyers business forms, presentation folders, posters, flyers and brochures. With quality work performed in a timely manner, The Messenger Press is guaranteed to exceed your expectations!
